Friday Evening 17th May.
We are delighted that Maria Leijerstam is joining us for the 2019 Tour of Pembrokeshire and will be riding with our Patron, Tori James and giving a talk the evening before, entitled Keep The Pedals Turning.
Maria loves to ride her bike so much that one day she cycled to the South Pole and became the first person in the world to achieve such an amazing feat. It was a ride with a difference which forced her to trade in her usual bike for a uniquely designed polar cycle that she and her team created.
During her expedition she also set the human powered speed record from the edge of the Antarctic continent to the South Pole. Sir Ranulph Fiennes (the worlds greatest living explorer) said shortly after her success that it had been an ‘extraordinary journey full of creativity’. Maria is now a mother of two and focuses her attention on introducing children and families to the wonderful sport of adventure racing through her Mini Burn races which include running, cycling, kayaking and navigation. www.burnseries.co.uk
